Anyone who has served in ministry knows how easily their work can be misunderstood. Putting something out into the world, especially in a public way, invites criticism—often from those who react quickly rather than seek to understand.

Henri Nouwen, one of my favorite authors, wrote the following letter to Fred Rogers, offering wisdom on navigating these struggles. His words remind us that criticism is often the cost of doing meaningful work. I’ve felt this tension myself—in preaching, creating, and most recently, releasing my first book. May this letter encourage us to remain faithful, even when misunderstood.
